Eyewitness Travel City Map to New York City
Published in Map by DK Publishing (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Eyewitness New YorkAfter living in New York City for ten years I tell folks to buy this book and see the town. It is the only way to do justice to this city. Whether you are going for the theatre, shopping, museums, or dining, this book makes every block an adventure. It is lightweight and indestructable. After you have used one you will purchase another Eyewitness Destination Guide for Paris, Tuscany, London... The Best!

Faces and Places from Avalon's Past
Published in Paperback by Avalonspast Publishing (06 January, 2003)
Average review score:

It Shore Is A Good ReadDave Coskey is one of the biggest sports honchos in Philly, the creative talent who has been in charge of the 76ers' marketing and PR departments, and now the Flyers' as well. But you wouldn't know it from this book, since he modestly declines to mention his day job. "Faces and Places From Avalon's Past" features Dave's remarkable collection of photographic images from the early-1900s development town that now is among the most exclusive on the Jersey Shore. Not only are there then-and-now visuals, but the book is chock full of anecdotes and profiles of Avalon's most important figures in its formative years. The book is a labor of love that began as a high school project nearly 30 years ago. Dave's exhaustive research is evident throughout. The best part is that you don't have to have any personal experience with Avalon to enjoy the book and get a taste of life in America in the first half of the 1900s. He plans to publish a sequel that will cover more recent decades, and I look forward to it.

Fifty Hikes in Central New York: Hikes and Backpacking Trips from the Western Adirondacks to the Finger Lakes
Published in Paperback by Backcountry Pubns (January, 2003)
Average review score:

day hikers guideI found this book to be a great way to learn about public hiking trails in CNY area. It has many details about access, estimated time, and conditions on the trails. One particularly useful feature is that it has a copy of a topographic map of the area with the trail clearly marked. Has a map showing the relative positions of each trail across the region with the table of contents. I like this book because it gives me ideas about new places to explore with lots of specific information.

The Finger Lakes Book: A Complete Guide (Great Destinations)
Published in Paperback by Berkshire House Pub (June, 2001)
Average review score:

A travel guide for the Finger LakesFinally, I found it. I moved to the Finger Lakes area (Rochester, NY) in 1996 and every time I visited a local book store I looked for some kind of travel guide for the area and I could never find one that wasn't hiking or cycling related. When I saw this one, I had to buy it and I don't regret it. It came very handy for the summer so far. It includes some of the history of each of the finger lakes and its towns. It also includes places to see and visit, where to stay and where to eat. A very good section is the one that lists all the area festivals and the dates when they usually occur. The list can help you plan ahead, either to visit when the festivals are taking place or to avoid them. Another part of the book that is very helpful is the maps section. It has maps for the different finger lakes areas, w/ main roads, etc. And if you want to know about the area wineries, it has a whole chapter on wineries. I have found that this book can be used by a local as well as tourist to the Finger Lakes area, it is very complete.

Fly Fishing the Beaverkill (Greycliff River Book Series, V. 1)
Published in Paperback by Greycliff Pub Co (May, 1999)
Average review score:

Better than a Michigan River?Last summer-99, I fished the Beaverkill and loved it, even in early August during the drought, for two days. I bought this book about a month ago, as I plan to go the the Beaverkill again this June for at least a week. Peper gives a very detailed account on how and where to fish the ponds of the B'kill. His descriptions of the hatches and the ties to fly are a plus to the book. In the past few weeks I have tied over 100 flies that he describes in his book, to take on my trip. I assume from what I have read in the book will make my fishing trip a great success. I recommmend this book to anyone even thinking of fishing the Beaverkill, you cant go wrong by buying it. See you in Junction Pool, this summer. Dr. Jim Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Great book to Philly!Fodor's Philadelphia is a great travel book to the "City of Brotherly Love". Everything from short hops around the city to great parts on restaurants and hotels, this guide has it all. The overview of Philly is also very well done. As a guide book, this is one of the best, if not the best, to Philadelphia and the surrounding area.

Fodors 97 New York City on the Loose (On the Loose)
Published in Paperback by Fodors Travel Pubns (November, 1996)
Average review score:

best travel book I have ever readThis book was funny, informative, and hip. It had information that was in none of the other travel books, and it is not boring like the Lonely Planet Guides. It was also organized in a great easy to read style. It lists places to eat for under five dollars which is great, too. A necessary book for the budget traveller.

Frommer's 2000 New York City from $80 a Day (Frommer's New York from $80 a Day, 2000)
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (November, 1999)
Average review score:

Don't Leave Home Without ItThis is THE book to take to New York. It is accurate, readable, amusing, and fits in your purse. The reviews of where to eat and where to stay may not let you do NYC on $80.00, but they certainly help prioritize where to put your dollar down, and what to expect back. The division of the book into individual areas of the city is most helpful, and the frequent small maps in the book are so much easier than dragging out the big map (which is included). I've made two trips to the city with my teenage daughters, and this book was my Bible and my security blanket. Great research, well organized, and fun to read.

Frommer's 2000 Portable New York City
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (November, 1999)
Average review score:

Frommer's 2000 Portable New York CityThis New York City compact guide belongs in any visitor's purse or pocket. The guide offers helpful websites which I accessed for information on ticket purchases and future events, as well as offering practical advice on personal safety issues. There are detailed descriptions and directions to the city's main attractions, including the subway numbers to get there. The author has shopping tips for luxury and bargain hunters alike. Note: You will probably need a more detailed guide for accomadations and dining such as the AAA New York Tourbook, to use as an adjunct.
